Resident Evil Revelations contains multiple weapons and items that can be found over the course of the game, as well as a collectable in the form of Handprints which can only be found via the Genesis. Scanning enough enemies will reward the Player with a health item. Unique to Revelations is the Genesis - A bio-hazard scanner that puts the player in first person mode to scan enemies and locations for hidden items.

As with more recent Resident Evil titles, Revelations comprises of slow moving third person shooter gameplay, in a story that follows different characters across several locations and points in time. The game features a multi-episode adventure, with each episode containing one to three sub-episodes, and a recap at the beginning of the next episode.
